Usually a new boulderer will be going out with others that will have pads and brushes... I would recommend waiting to get a pad once you are committed to the sport, since it is the biggest investment a boulderer makes. Organic (http://www.organicclimbing.com/) makes awesome customizable pads in different sizes.
