I'm with you for the most part, though The Old Man and the Sea felt suspiciously like punishment when I read it in high school. It's the only Hemingway I've ever met that I didn't enjoy... As far as children's travel/adventure books go, "Swallows and Amazons" was huge for me. Also any number of pirate/shipwreck/castaway stories. And of course, there's Narnia. Cool list!
