True that the data plans are expensive, but at least you can still access WiFi with the iPhone. Its not as convenient as being able to access data anywhere, but last week I spent a few days in London and had a fairly easy time accessing WiFi networks. As far as things breaking im afraid I cant help you there. ;)

I keep breaking iPods. And phones. And cameras. And Powerbooks. I don't think apple can handle my travel needs for an acceptable price. One day I'll get one -- and be very happy -- but it'll be a day when travellers can afford the data plan. I can live for four days on the cost of the cheapest plan I've seen! And then I ought to buy insurance for it and worry about it getting stolen. No thanks, I choose travel. PS: What's a "bedroom community"? I've never heard that phrase before.

Kudos to Appigo for updating their app to reflect the metric reality of the global market. Now if only Weatherbug would read through their comments on iTunes and add a Celsius option. For people like me raised in a Celsius world, Fahrenheit just does not compute, or at least, not without applying equations. I like to know what the temperature is going to be at a glance, and Fahrenheit makes this impossible. Weatherbug = good app, baaad execution. A Celsius option would be so simple.

How about an iPhone web app to call home or your friends in any country? We made some software so no one has to pay roaming costs when travelling. I've got mates all over the place using it. It works anywhere over GSM networks. http://www.mo-call.com/iphone

Some how I don't see these as being useful, for starters I really don't think that having a reference for morse code would be helpful. I tap out in morse code will still be in english. As for currency rates well I exchange my money before I travel. ACCUFUEL useless since I never travel with in the US. URBANSPOON I don't like gambling with food. STEPS: I never get into conversations about how far I have walked. Weatherbug: I tend to look out a window to see what the current conditions are like. Twitter and Facebook : I will never use those services on the net I don't need them. I don't suffer the need to tell everyone what I'm doing every second of the day and night. No one needs to know that. SPEND: I have never needed to do this ever.

For a different twist on the phrase book subject try out Babelingo. Rather than audio, phrases are presented in a large script easily read from a distance... let people just read your phrase in their own language. Supports six different languages in a single app. http://www.ibabelingo.com/
